State Trooper responding to emergency call killed in Southeast Texas crash

A Texas State Trooper who was a married father of five was killed Monday night in a car crash in southeast Texas.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 44-year-old Trooper Jerry Wayne Adamick Jr. was responding to an emergency at about 9:15 p.m. on Monday and was driving on Farm-to-Market Road 945 South when his vehicle left the road, hit a tree and caught fire.

Adamick, the DPS said, died at the scene.

“Our hearts are broken today,” said DPS Colonel Freeman F. Martin. “Trooper Adamick bravely served our country for many years, and we were proud to have him choose to continue his service as part of the DPS family. He had so much life ahead of him, and today we grieve with his family and friends.”

The DPS said Adamick is survived by his wife, Roxanne, and their five adult children and that he was based out of Coldspring in San Jacinto County.

Adamick’s family said he dreamed of being a Texas State Trooper and realized that dream when his recruit class graduated in August 2024. A DPS statement released last year said Adamick and his class were to begin working out of their duty stations on Sept. 15, 2024, exactly one year before the fatal crash.

Before joining the DPS, Adamick served with the United States Army for more than two decades and completed several tours overseas. Last year, he received the Veterans National Defense Award.

Funeral arrangements are still being finalized.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Adamick is the 242nd DPS Officer to die in the line of duty since 1823.
